Congrats Class of 2012!

So, on Friday the 22nd my friends and I graduated, ready to leave behind our past four years of schooling in the pursuit of higher education. I graduated with honors, and as a member of National Honor Society. I wore the tangerine chiffon dress from the scholarship dinner a few months ago, and then changed into my favorite high-waisted plaid shorts and slouchy tee behind the bleachers in the gym.

Well at least amidst the stifling heat and severe thunderstorm warning, my hair looked good.

What I Wore: Scholarship Dinner

I'm sorry that this post is so late! Well anyways, a few months ago I was awarded a generous scholarship from the Portuguese-American Scholarship Foundation of NJ. I wore this cute tangerine pleated chiffon dress--a highly seasonal and trendy color, not something I would usually buy, but it just looked so good on me that I had to. It's from Jessica Simpson's line of clothing, and though I normally try to stay away from celebrity lines, whoever DID design it did a pretty good job.

DIY Inspiration Sunday: Floral Crowns

I've seen floral crowns popping up everywhere on the interweb, and I must admit I'm glad it's finally becoming sort of socially acceptable to wear a crown of flowers in public (:

I've yet to make my own, but I've been eying the silk flowers in the craft aisle of my local Wal-mart -- for $3-5, I can get a really nice, full bunch of surprisingly realistic flowers. I have a spool of nice, bend-y craft wire in my stash, so I just have to wait until my next babysitting paycheck to buy the floral tape and flowers--and maybe some matching tulle?

Anywho, here are some terrifically lovely examples of floral crowns via Honestly...WTF

The full, soft blooms on the left are definetely my favorite--very Pre-Raphaelite-esque!
More modern, architectural versions.

I've seen these floating on Tumblr for the longest time now-- totally swoon-worthy!
So readers, have any of you experimented in making/wearing a floral crown?

What I Wore: 3-31-2012

The 31st of March was simultaneously my mother's birthday and the anniversary of our local Portuguese Cultural Association. I had to go to the PCA's anniversary party in order to receive a scholarship I had been given (yay!) and we took the opportunity to celebrate my mom's birthday there. It actually turned out to be a really fun birthday for her: lots of food, plenty of dancing. I'm a sucker for some traditional Portuguese food. The blood rice, the stewed organs, the roasted lamb and potatoes, and a number of other things which I don't know the name of but ate anyway (it's better that way...).

I wore a really pretty Bar III lavender chiffon dress I had got on sale at Macy's (love me some clearance rack). It's unlike the other party dresses I have, being that the others are all black and heavy (you know, for New Year's Eve, Christmas, my birthday--all prettymuch winter holidays).

Rather wrinkly cowl neck bodice

I did my own hair too. First, I took a small lock of hair from behind my left ear and braided it, then bringing it across my head and pinning it down to form a "headband". I proceed by rolling my hair into a ponytail, and then tucking it in behind the scrunchie (it doesn't sound like it makes sense, but it's pretty simple haha).

I wore some really cute Bar III earrings too, also from Macy's. They were little chains, knotted, with rhinestones on the end, and I was fascinated by their mix of edgy and interesting.

Very messy at the end of the night! haha
